Mobile Laboratory

The IES mobile laboratories are designed to provide rapid, highly accurate chemical analyses. The laboratories are mounted on a 14-foot cube van and contain the following equipment.

  • Gas Chromatograph
  • Fourier-Transform Infrared Detector (FT-IR)
  • Mass Spectrometer
  • Water testing wet-lab

Inside IES Mobile Laboratory

 

Actual analysis of unknown materials is done through a point-by-point spectral comparison to IR and mass spectral libraries. IES has compiled an extensive custom proprietary library of both infrared and mass spectrometer data. These libraries permit very rapid positive identification of most gases, including a large number of exotic species. Techniques have also been developed to allow qualitative field measurement of radioactive gases.
