Wet Scrubbers

IES manufactures and uses two primary types of wet gas scrubbers. Each unit is designed and constructed for on-site treatment of hazardous gases.

The largest wet scrubber (top right) produces an inlet flow rate in excess of 600 cfm. A single centrifugal pump re-circulates neutralization reagent through both a venturi column and a counterflow packed bed. Inlet gases are entrained in the venturi and travel upward against the reagent flow through a packed bed. A flexible 4-inch hose is used to “vacuum” target gases into the scrubber and allows operators to easily capture leaks or gas emissions from multiple points.

IES also uses a high-vacuum scrubber (bottom right) designed to facilitate cylinder decontamination. This unit effectively removes residual gas from processed cylinders. A high vacuum is created at a venturi suction inlet by pumping reagent through an ejector. After connection to a cylinder, the rapid flow of reagent through the venturi establishes a high vacuum. This action removes even minute quantities of residual gas from the cylinder. As the gas contacts the extremely turbulent reagent stream, it is neutralized instantly.
