Valve Sampling System

In specialized situations, IES uses a pair of chambers designed to completely enclose a target cylinder while still allowing its valve to be remotely opened and controlled.

This configuration is referred to as the Valve Sampling System (VSS) since it is often used to allow potentially dangerous cylinders to be safely sampled through an operable valve. The valve opening mechanism is a pneumatically actuated wrench. This wrench contains adapters to allow it to fit various types of valves and is constructed to permit maximum application of torque without over-stressing the valve. Once the valve actuator is in place the operator closes and seals the cylinder chamber door. As a safety precaution the operator then enters the second chamber where they are able to control valve opening and cylinder sampling operations and monitor progress using a closed circuit video display.
